Get a Car Ready for Summer Driving
The following is a look at how to get your car ready for summer:
Stock your vehicle with summer essentials: This might seem less important than topping off fluids and checking belts and tubes, but a big part of enjoying your summer in your car is having what you need easily on hand. So, make time to put a few of the stuff you use regularly in the summer to your trunk so that you always have them available when you wish or need them. Water bottles, sunscreen, a towel, a picnic blanket, bug spray, snacks, sunglasses, an easy jacket, Frisbee, soccer or volleyball, etc. all come in handy during the summer.
Check all belts, tubes, etc. Often going in one extreme (cold), to a different (hot), can cause cracks and bursting of seams in belts and tubes in your engine. So, when summer starts, the best thing to complete to obtain your car ready would be to take it right into a mechanic for any basic check-up. This can be done when you’re getting your oil changed. The concept is to make sure nothing cracked or broke, and change it if it did.
Top off all fluids. Your engine has compartments for a number of fluids. One way to get your car ready for the summer time is to ensure those fluids are all full. Your radiator will stand an improved chance of keeping your vehicle from over heating if it’s full of antifreeze. Your windshield simpler to clean if your washer fluid is full, etc.
Improve your wiper blades. The winter is difficult on windshield wipers, and fresh wiper blades alllow for much safer summer driving, especially if you run into rain. So, take the time to buy a new group of wipers and install them BEFORE the first summer rain.
Switch to a thicker viscosity oil. This can protect your engine because it will make sure the oil is thick enough to act as a proper lubricant in the engine. As oil gets hotter, it thins, therefore the summertime require a thicker oil compared to winter months.
Look at your tire pressure. Temperature changes can leave your tires over or under inflated. This is bad for your fuel useage as well as for your tire wear. You will get far more use from your tank of gas, and your group of tires, should you check regularly to ensure they are properly inflated. Talk to your user guide, or the manufacturer’s guide for the proper inflation for the vehicle.
Get sun shades for that windows of the car, and ensure your ac is fully charged, and running well. This is going to help make the largest dilemma of summer, a car too hot to sit down in, steering wheels to hot to the touch, etc. a smaller amount of a problem, by protecting the inside from sunlight, and quickly cooling the vehicle.
